The Man Behind the Story

Rasoul Sadeghi Hardangi was born and raised in Iran, where an early fascination with computers became a quiet window onto the rest of the world. Long before he understood what leaving would cost, he knew that he wanted a different future.

That search took him first to London, where he lived and worked and learned what it feels like to build a life in a city that does not yet know your name. In 2012 it carried him to the United States — and into nine months of immigration detention.

On October 10, 2012, he walked out free, with almost nothing, into a country he barely knew. He began again in San Francisco.

In the years that followed he built a career in technology and entrepreneurship, founded the financial technology company Invoiss, and became a citizen of the United States. But the milestones are not the story. The story is what they cost, and what they taught him about freedom.

In 2026 he lost his father. In the quiet that followed, he set out on a journey across the country, reflecting on life, freedom, grief and resilience. My Journey to a Second Life is the story of everything that came before — and of what it means to begin again.
